Account Deletion Policy

We Value Your Choice: At Maalagha, we respect your right to delete your account and personal data. This page explains our account deletion process for caregivers, volunteers, patients, and families.

1. Overview

Maalagha does not currently offer an in-app account deletion feature. To request deletion of your account, you must contact our support team via email. We will process your request promptly and delete all associated data as outlined in this policy.

2. How to Request Account Deletion

Follow these steps to request deletion of your Maalagha account:

  1. 1Compose an Email

    Send an email to hello@maalagha.com with the subject line: "Account Deletion Request"

  2. 2Provide Required Information

    Include the following details in your email:

    • Your full name (as registered on Maalagha)
    • Your registered email address
    • Your user type (caregiver, volunteer, or family member/guardian)
    • Phone number (if available)
    • Reason for deletion (optional but helps us improve)
  3. 3Identity Verification

    Our support team may contact you to verify your identity before processing the deletion request. This is a security measure to protect your account from unauthorized deletion.

  4. 4Confirmation

    Once verified, we will send you a confirmation email acknowledging your deletion request and the expected processing timeline.

  5. 5Account Deletion

    Your account and associated data will be permanently deleted within the specified timeframe. You will receive a final confirmation email once the deletion is complete.

3. Processing Time

Account deletion requests are processed according to the following timeline:

  • Acknowledgment: Within 24-48 hours of receiving your request
  • Identity Verification: 1-3 business days (if required)
  • Complete Deletion: Within 7-14 business days from verification
  • Final Confirmation: Sent within 24 hours of deletion completion

Important: During the processing period, your account will be temporarily deactivated. You will not be able to log in or access Maalagha services. If you change your mind, contact us immediately before the deletion is finalized.

4. What Data Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed from our servers:

Account Credentials Deleted Login credentials, authentication tokens, passwords
Activity Logs Deleted Daily logs, emotion tracking, sleep records, workout data
Care Sessions Deleted Session history, notes, reports, check-in records
Caregiver/Volunteer Connections Deleted Matches, connections, communication history
Health Information Deleted Patient health records, diagnoses, care plans (server-stored)
Payment Information Deleted Billing details, transaction history (except legally required records)
Notifications Deleted Push notification tokens, notification history
Preferences & Settings Deleted App settings, notification preferences, customizations

5. Locally Stored Data

Certain data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to our servers. This includes:

  • Medication Details: Medication schedules, reminders, and dosage information
  • Local App Cache: Temporary files, images, and cached content
  • Device Preferences: Local settings and configurations

Removing Local Data: To completely remove locally stored data, you must uninstall the Maalagha app from your device. This will delete all medication details, cached files, and local preferences stored on your device.

6. Data Retention for Legal Compliance

While we delete most of your data, some information may be retained for legal and compliance purposes:

  • Transaction Records: Financial transaction records may be retained for tax and accounting purposes as required by law (typically up to 7 years)
  • Legal Compliance: Data required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements
  • Anonymized Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized data used for analytics and service improvement (cannot be linked back to you)
  • Security Logs: Security-related logs for fraud prevention and system integrity (retained for up to 90 days)

7. Impact on Connected Users

For Family Members/Guardians:

If you delete your account as a family member or guardian:

  • All patient profiles you created will be deleted
  • Active care sessions and caregiver connections will be terminated
  • Other family members with separate accounts will not be affected

For Caregivers and Volunteers:

If you delete your account as a caregiver or volunteer:

  • All your professional profiles and credentials will be removed
  • Active matches and sessions will be canceled
  • Families you were connected with will be notified of your account closure
  • Your reviews and ratings will be anonymized (visible as "Former Caregiver")

Warning: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data will be lost, and you will need to create a new account if you wish to use Maalagha again in the future.

8. Alternative Options

If you're considering account deletion due to specific concerns, we offer alternative solutions:

Temporary Deactivation

If you need a break but may want to return, consider temporarily deactivating your account instead. Contact support at hello@maalagha.com to discuss this option.

Data Export

Before deleting your account, you can request a copy of your data. Email us to request a data export, and we will provide your information in a portable format within 30 days.

Privacy Settings

If privacy is your concern, you can adjust your privacy settings, limit data sharing, or opt out of marketing communications without deleting your account.
